i bought a pair of 1209 8As and comparing them with my 1285s or even my N800 8ks (846bs) it seems the LF is a bit quieter with the 1209s. has anyone else noticed this? could the caps on BOTH be equally bad?

Are the L-pads original/correct?
Not all vegetables make good leaders.
L- pads shouldn't affect the LF. it may be due to the extra parts in the circuit.

the HF is fine. a little brighter than i might want. the 802 8gs are blazing. i wonder if there's a way to tone it down,, short of stuffing a sock down it's throat.
it's just the LF. it just takes a bit more volume to get as much response. the networks look to be in really nice condition and with original parts.
i wonder if could get what i want if i copied the 1200 circuit of the LF in the 1285s?

You can't bring it into balance by turning both L-pads down a hair?
You likely are losing a db or so with the RC ( C1 and R1) across the woofer. I'd have to do the math to see what happens if you lift one end of that resistor and capacitor wired across the woofer....my brain rebels at the idea of math today. Gettin' too old for that stuff. Also if C1 is off that RC section won't do it's job right...might be worth checking if you can or replacing if you can't.
But just lifting one end of that series resistor and cap would remove it from being parallel across the woof...I'd be sorely tempted to try it...
I assume you are using a 416 LF? If not R1 and C1 likely won't be the correct values.
